KAIRI

One day on an island named for its unusual fortune: Destiny Island, there was an irregular phenomenon. Two boys were playing- fighting actually- with there wooden toy swords. They were just kids: the younger one about seven and the older one eight. They had been best friends forever; almost like brothers. They spent all of there time together as one, the oldest developed a protective and possessive nature, the other a soft child like wonder.

"Hey Riku!" The younger of the two shouted as he ran over to the older taller white haired boy. "Wait UP!" He huffed as he pushed himself onward.

The older boy-Riku-smiled in a superior way as he slowed his pace for the young wide eyed brown hair boy. As the small boy reached his side he doubled over with heavy pants. "You wanted something….Sora?" Riku asked in a faux politeness. He thought the little boy was very cute and loved to tease him.

Sora's cheeks flushed in anger. "You know-I have been calling to you for five minuets, trying to get you to slow down." He huffed, Sora knew that Riku liked to mess with him but he didn't like being treated like a little kid; which always happened around Riku. "I need you to help me with something." Sora sighed crossing his arms up behind his head and allowing them to support it as he walked. This was his usual position when he was at ease. He was the only one whoever felt this way around Riku; something about his personality put people on edge.

As the boys trudged forward they came to the edge of the island where the water began to meet the shore. "Ok, what do you need?" Riku finally said as Sora's head snapped up and his eyes focused in an intense way out at the sea. Riku's eye brows pulled together in confusion as he watched Sora shift from hard concentration to shock. Riku automatically began to follow Sora's gaze and when he saw what Sora must have been looking at his expression mimicked his.

Sora couldn't believe his eyes as he confirmed what he saw. The body of a person, perhaps a girl, was floating out in the ocean on a small piece of wood. "Riku! You have to go save her!" Sora commanded him in shock as he shook Riku's arm, trying to bring him back to the present.

Riku snapped back into the moment and proceeded with fulfilling Sora's request. Without even taking his shoes off he ran into the cold ocean water and began to swim toward the small, hopefully only unconscious, body. After towing her back to shore the two boys looked her over carefully, she was breathing and there were no cuts or bruises on her body.

Sora was nervous and impatient; he was never good at waiting. Riku on the other hand was a calm rock as he sat next to the small light brown haired girl. Sora's stomach was in knots before the girl finally stirred her eye twitching before she dared to open them. Finally her light blue eyes opened to the sky and she took in the clouds with shocked widening pupils.

"Umm, hey" Sora said in a small voice to catch her attention.

She blinked and looked at the pair seated a little ways to her right. "Are you ok?" Sora's small voice whispered.

She sat up a little slowly, as she assessed herself. "Yes, I think so." She answered in a confused but pleasant voice. "Who are you?" She asked politely as Sora dipped his head in embarrassment. "So-ra" he strangled the word a little.

Riku sat behind Sora quiet as a mouse looking at the strange new girl. "This is Riku…" Sora continued. Riku stepped forward and began to assist the little girl up in a neutral posture. "What is your name?" He asked her when she was completely on her feet. "I'm Kiari." She answered as she too assessed Riku. "Thank you" she said when she had finished.

"Where are you from, what happened to you?" He asked as he arched an eyebrow. "I don't…know." She said thoughtfully as she tried to remember.

"You were out there in the water floating on a piece of wood." Sora added to try and be helpful. He pointed to the small floatation device in the ocean. "I saw you-" He said as he stopped short. This new girl looked very pretty to him. Her eyes appraised him as well as she walked over to him with a warm glow and reached her hand out to him in thanks. "Thank you…you're very nice to help a stranger." She complimented him. He blushed as he pulled his hand away and used it to make an eraser movement in the air. "Don't thank me-I didn't do anything. He saved you." Sora pointed to Riku.

Riku shrugged in indifference, "you asked me to." He said.
"Really?" She asked. Sora shook his head shyly. "That settles it!" The girl said happily as she positioned herself in-between the two boys. "You guys are now my friends!" she proclaimed as she took both there hands.
Riku remained indifferent but Sora blushed furiously as they started to guide their new friend back to town.

And from that day forward Riku, Kiari and Sora were best friends. They always hung out at the beach and played together. However as they grew older and started high school their friendship went through a change. Their time together and the cross into their teenage years brought with them a new bunch of mixed feelings to their group.

Sora stayed shy and timid around Kiari but with a fondness of her that did not escape Riku's attention as he slowly drifted to the third wheel of the group. Kiari and Sora liked each other a lot. Though Riku realized this before Sora did he still was shocked when Sora finally tried to talk with him about it.

"Riku, do you know anything about…girls?" Sora asked and when Riku's gaze fell upon him, he blushed a deep red.

That simple red blush that turned Sora's face into that of a cherry red tomato was something Riku valued immensely. He loved to look at Sora, to watch his reactions and shyness. He would have been pleased by this reaction if it were related to any other topic.

Riku grimaced internally at the thought of Sora dating but kept these thoughts and feelings well hidden and off his facial reactions. This was an art Sora was never able to perfect as he blushed redder from Riku's silence.

"N-never mind- you don't h-have to answer." He waved his hands in front of himself in a dismissive frantic way.

"Fine." Riku said with a fake smile and a shrug.

Sora relaxed a little at that as he sat down on the grass out in the open field; it was break time at their school and the weather was nice and warm today. He starred at the ground as he thought hard about what he would do, he planned on finally telling Kiari his true feelings after school today but what-

"So what are you planning to say to Kiari then?" Riku asked derailing his train of thought and causing his head to snap up with eyes wide in shock. Riku loved this reaction- he laughed lightly- it was Sora's 'are you reading my mind?' face.

"How- what- why?" Sora babbled incoherently.

"You're just easy to read." Riku smiled with closed eyes. He knew Sora was more perceptive then most when it came to Riku's true feelings, except where it really counted, 'thank god for his obliviousness' Riku thought. So he kept his eyes away from Sora when ever he did something that displeased or upset him inside. "So what are you goanna do?" He persisted.
"I am not really sure." He pouted slightly. "You have any suggestions mister know it all?"
'Sure, forget her and fall in love with me' he thought to himself. "How about you start with talking to her for more than a minuet" Riku suggested wishing Sora wouldn't listen to him. Sora pondered that for a little while not realizing that Kiari was walking up right behind them.

"Hey guys!" She called causing their heads to snap up at the same moment. Riku was totally unaffected as she wedged her way in between them but, Sora's throat closed up and he began to be flustered. "How did you do on that assignment for class?" She asked them as she looked at Riku.

"Fine…it was boring, mostly." Riku said reflexively, he was a good student and always got good grades on his assignments. Riku was watching Sora from the corner of his eye. 'Common Sora' He sighed as Sora closed down and was unable to respond. "How about you Sora?" She asked with some politeness.
At that moment the bell rang and everyone had to part ways for class. Sora sighed internally 'I'm such a coward' he thought. The teacher continued droning on and on with the lesson as Sora became groggier and groggier. His eyes were nearly shut when he was hit on the back of the head with a note.

'Meet me behind the school before you go home; I need to tell you something important
                                                                <3 Kiari'
It read.

Sora blushed madly when he finally realized what the note might mean. 'Does Kiari have feelings for me too?' he wondered.
That afternoon after the final bell rang Sora dashed to his locker and put in his backpack.

Quick as a flash he slammed the door and ran around the corner only to run into someone. "Oh!" Sora said shocked as he was caught from falling backward in a pair of strong arms. "I'm sorry." He said as he was put back up in the erect position. It was Riku standing before him. Sora flushed slightly as he continued on ward. "I have somewhere I have to be." He said and ran around the corner toward the back door.

Riku couldn't believe his good fortune as he watched Sora run out the back of the school. He had just held Sora, feeling his warmth against his body. But where did he run off to? Riku decided it really wasn't any of his business but that like always-when it came to Sora- he would follow anyway.

Sora ran to the meeting spot as fast as his legs would get him there; secretly promising himself that he would be bolder, braver today. Kiari was standing there all by herself and as he approached she looked up. Her expression was first shocked and then displeased. Sora began to slow his pace, fearing he had made a mistake. "Hi Kiari," He finally said. After another awkward pause Kiari finally spoke, "Sora, did you get a letter?" She asked patiently. Sora's face turned bright red "Yes", he answered nervously.
A sudden thoughtful expression covered Kiari's face as she pondered their situation. Then realization hit her like a ton of bricks as she put the pieces together and sighed in exasperation.
One whispered mutter and she was grimacing slightly at him. "Sora I'm sorry, that letter-that letter was meant for someone else." She said with a truly sincere smile. 'What?' Sora's unhideable expressions were frozen into an overload of pain. "The friend I gave it to must have mistaken you for the other person I liked. I'm sorry." "R-really?" He managed to reply. "It's not like you like me like that anyway, right?" She smiled. "Yeah-
-right" He laughed nervously. "Well see you in school tomorrow." She finished right before walking away.

Sora was frozen in place, stuck to the spot where his dreams all came crashing down. It didn't make sense to him, his entire world, his hopes, his dreams were all killed right there in front of him and yet…it continued to be a bright, beautiful, sunny day. All around him people were walking home eager to enjoy what was left of their day. Some laughing and some playing, he walked home in a daze.
He too started walking home but not with the same comfort that the other students were exuding. His arms and legs felt heavy as his shoulders tensed up under the weight of his crushed self.

As he approached his house he saw what looked like a silver blob standing next to his mailbox. The blob got bigger and bigger as he realized two things, it wasn't a blob it was a person and that his eyes were welling up with tears.
The person was Riku, leaning with his arms crossed over his chest and a blank expression on his face. Sora recognized this face; it was Riku's concerned and already fully aware of what was going on look.
This an idea I got inspired with from looking at all different riku and sora comics....so they may be a little bit familiar with something u've read but lets face it, what kind of situation hasn't been made up for Riku and Sora already?

Quick question: Did this Yaoi stuff all begin with the Paopu thing in the very beginning of Kingdom Hearts 1?
